Dr Gavin Franklin - Director of Studies

 

 

Gavin’s formal music education began at age seven and continues to this day.

After undergraduate music studies at Monash University, post-grad work at UNE and La Trobe, he completed a PhD in jazz at the University of NSW. Gavin also studied performance in the USA at Berklee College of Music (Boston) and with David Baker at the University of Indiana. 

 

His teaching career has been long and comprehensive, conducting education and music courses at Deakin University/Warrnambool Institute for more than two decades, at Southwest TAFE and many schools.

 

Gavin has eclectic musical tastes, studying classical piano to A.Mus.A. level, he has played in jazz, rock and Baroque groups as well as completing a Masters Degree in ethnomusicology. 

 

Dr Franklin took up the position of Director of Studies at JMA in 2017 and oversees the curriculum for both Bachelor and Post Graduate students.
